Bike Cleveland Finalist in Advocacy Award from Bicycling Magazine

Bike Light Photo Group

Bike Cleveland is honored to be a top 10 finalist for Bicycling Magazine’s People’s Choice Advocacy Award for our light distribution outreach event.

Help us win by voting today.

The award is in recognition of the fall light distribution event geared towards making nighttime cycling safer. With 70 lights purchased using “Share the Road” license plate revenue by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Bike Cleveland recruited members and volunteers to intercept unlit riders and install free lights on their bicycles. Each interaction was an opportunity for education: while the lights were being installed, volunteers talked to recipients about bike safety and upcoming Bike Cleveland advocacy.

The event was a huge success in increasing visibility—literally—for bicyclists in Cleveland. We plan to replicate the project in 2014 with more volunteers and more lights.
