Detroit-Superior Bridge Collision

Early this morning, reports began to emerge of a cyclist being hit on the Detroit-Superior bridge.

The details, as of April 26th at 4:00PM, are as follows (driver & cyclist’s names removed):

The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is currently investigating a crash which occurred on April 26, 2017 at approximately 1:00am.  Officers responded to the area just west of the Detroit Superior bridge for a motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist.  Preliminary information reveals that the motorist was operating her 2010 Chevrolet eastbound on the Detroit/Superior Bridge from West 25th St., in the left lane approaching the west end of the bridge structure when H/M/26 (xxxx) operated a bicycle without any light source or safety gear and heading in a westerly direction while left of center in her lane of travel and collided with the front left corner of the 2010 Chevrolet.  H/M/26 (xxxx) was ejected off the bicycle into the left corner of the windshield and landed in the left lane of westbound traffic.  B/F/43 (xxxx) stops and remains on scene. H/M/26 (xxxx) is conveyed by EMS Medic #1 to MetroHealth Medical Ctr. where he is confined with serious life threatening injuries.  Strong odor of alcohol on (xxxx); suspected alcohol use.

These are the facts as we know as of now.  This was likely a horrifying situation for both the driver and cyclist, and please keep them in your thoughts as we wait for the final details to emerge.  We will update this page as more information becomes available.
