Look down. Look up. A look at the future!

Riders: The next time you pedal across Detroit-Superior Bridge, take a peek down at the roadway. There are some first-stage markings on the road for what is in our future! B = Bike Lanes!

 

And look up as well! The signage you used to ride under heading eastbound is being removed, because this lane will become a dedicated bicycle-only lane as you cross the peak of the bridge. No more frantically looking over your shoulder (or in your mirror) at cars bearing down at you as you spin up the grade!

 

These are just the early steps of a transformation that will positively impact this heavily used bridge – one that has long been a dangerous and often avoided cycling route into downtown. Stay tuned as the project develops: the work in earnest is set to begin in November, with some aspects relying on the completion of the NEORSD construction project on the eastern side. Of course we would like to thank NOACA and the City of Cleveland, especially the Traffic Engineering Department for prioritizing these improvements!
