2016 Greater Cleveland Trails & Greenway Conference

eml_promoSomeone once said that to build trails and greenways is to build communities, and all across the country, decision makers are beginning to understand the positive benefits of such facilities. Trails and greenways are an excellent way to encourage people to adopt lifestyle changes that will bring lifetime health benefits, and positively affect the quality of life for those who live near and use such facilities. More than just fun and games, trails are a proven economic stimulator, drive up property values, are a great way to promote active/alternative transportation, improve the public health, and help keep our water clean by reducing stormwater runoff.

Despite these benefits, and progress made throughout Greater Cleveland to build and improve these types of facilities, there is still a long way to go. Scarcity of resources and funding, and in some cases a lack of acceptance and support demonstrate a need to raise awareness of the value and benefits of trails, and encourage decision makers to give greater priority to trail and greenway projects. Additionally, tools are needed to help communities, planners, and advocates transform trail plans and concepts to construction ready projects and ultimately into completed and well maintained trail infrastructure. In response, a biannual trails and greenways conference is organized in Northeast Ohio, and 2016 marks the 4th edition.
