Bikes, Beers, and Dan: A Bike Cleveland Social

Bike Cleveland and On the Edge Films, will be bringing in national speaker Dan Austin for its first ever Bike Cleveland Social. The social will take place on Wednesday April, 11th at 6pm at Market Garden Brewery.

Bikes, Brews, and Dan: a Bike Cleveland social will be held at Market Garden Brewery (1947 W. 25th st.). There will be time for networking, and Austin will share some of his global biking stories and his experiences developing bike paths on the West Coast with Seattle, Washington cycling organizations. The social is sponsored by Market Garden Brewery and Tremont Electric.

National speaker, Dan Austin, the man Outside Magazine called “One of 10 Icons Changing the World,” is an author, filmmaker, and cycling and sustainability advocate. Austin co-founded and and is Executive Director of the 88bikes Foundation (www.88bikes.org).

During his speaking engagements, Austin tells stories from his five years of endowing bikes to children in refugee camps, remote villages, orphanages and ashrams throughout the developing world. Interwoven with 88bikes stories are tales of Austin’s long-distance bike journeys, including his trips across America and down the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Austin discusses how biking and walking – whether across town or across the continent – enhance every aspect of life. He cites biking statistics and studies from Amsterdam to Portland and discusses how diverse communities, from the villages 88bikes endows in Mongolia to thriving urban hubs in the U.S. benefit from living sustainability.

Additional free speaking engagements will be held at the Cleveland Public Library, Collinwood Branch, Wednesday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. and at the Cleveland YMCA, Saturday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m to inspire youths to ride bikes, live more sustainabilly and to become more aware of other children’s conditions around the world.

Also on the tour agenda is a visit to the City of Cleveland’s Office of Sustainability and Kent State University Design Collaborative to discuss emerging ideas for Complete and Green Streets.

Austin’s visit to Cleveland culminates at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour showing at PlayhouseSquare on Friday, April 13 & Saturday, April 14 where he will be the Guest of Honor.
