Open House: Superior Midway Project
After 10 years of advocating, planning, and public outreach – we are pleased to invite you to the City of Cleveland’s first Open House for the Superior Midway Project Design. Once fully complete, the Midway Network will be a transformative step forward for Cleveland residents and visitors alike to embrace active transportation within a safe and inviting riding environment. This first corridor, from Public Square east to E55th Street represents the first step of this transformation. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.

Some history and background on the Midway:
Bike Cleveland: Midway Protected Bike Network | “Designed with safety, convenience and comfort in mind, The Midway will be an easy to navigate network connecting city residents of all ages to schools, places of employment, and regional assets like Cleveland Metroparks.”
Cleveland Transportation Initiatives: Superior Midway | “The Midway is a vision for connected bikeways across the City of Cleveland that physically separate bicycle riders from vehicles using treatments such as landscaping or other amenities. The first Midway segment, the Superior Midway, will provide a safe, convenient, and comfortable link along Superior Avenue between E. 55th Street and Public Square.”
The Midway Cleveland: Designing Cleveland With Equity In Mind | “The Midway is an economic investment, public transit, streetscape, ecological, and neighborhood livability project that provides significant investment to the most vulnerable of Cleveland neighborhoods.”
A path of their own: Cleveland bikeway projects would improve safety, accessibility for cyclists | “Bike Cleveland, an advocacy group for cyclists and bike-friendly infrastructure, began campaigning for separated bikeways about ten years ago in an effort to make biking safer for cyclists of all experience levels.”
Important information about the ongoing preliminary design will be presented. Design will be completed in late 2024 and construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.
The proposed improvements include:
- New center median bike path, physically separated from vehicular traffic
- New pedestrian crossing “landing zone” islands at intersections
- New signs, signals, and pavement markings
- Pavement repairs as needed, and complete asphalt resurfacing
- New curbs, sidewalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and drive aprons, as necessary
- Landscaping and amenities at various locations
“The Superior Midway project is a multi-modal safety improvement project. The project includes a center median bike path, physically separated from vehicular traffic, “landing zones” for pedestrian crossings at intersections, and redesigned traffic signals to safely accommodate all pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic on the corridor. The Superior Midway project will start at the East Roadway of Public Square to East 55 Street and is being designed from the recommendations of a previously performed traffic safety study and public engagement.”
