Bike Cleveland is seeking a Part-Time Education Assistant to support hands-on bicycle education and community programming across Greater Cleveland.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about education, youth engagement, and creating healthier, more connected communities through active transportation.

The Education Assistant will work closely with Bike Cleveland’s Education Director to help deliver a wide range of programs including youth bike camps, after-school bike clubs, in-school bicycle education, adult learning opportunities, and community events. From supporting riding skills instruction to helping organize educational activities and outreach efforts, this role blends education, recreation, and community engagement in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in active learning environments, and is excited to gain experience in community-based programming and bicycle education. Whether assisting at a youth bike camp, helping facilitate Smart Cycling classes, or supporting neighborhood outreach events, the Education Assistant will play an important role in helping more people safely and confidently bike in Greater Cleveland.

Part-Time Education Assistant (Programming & Bicycle Education Support)

Position Summary
The Part-Time Education Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of education programming focused on active learning, community engagement, and bicycle education.  This role is ideal for college students or professionals interested in education, youth development, public health, recreation or community-based programming. 

The Education Assistant will work closely with the Education Director to assist with program implementation, participant engagement, and logistical coordination.  Training will be provided, including foundational knowledge in bicycle safety education, instructional support and program facilitation. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup, breakdown, and facilitation of educational programs, workshops and community events
  • Support instruction during sessions, including youth and adult programming
  • Help manage participant engagement and ensure a positive, inclusive learning environment
  • Assist with basic bicycle education activities (e.g. helmet fitting, safety check, riding skills support)
  • Provide logistical support including materials preparation, attendance tracking and equipment organization
  • Support outreach efforts such as program promotion, registration, and community engagement
  • Help maintain inventory of program supplies, bicycles and safety equipment
  • Document programs through photos, feedback collection, and basic reporting
  • Follow safety protocols and assist in risk management during activities
  • Represent the organization in a professional and welcoming manner within the community

  • Interest in education, community programming, youth development, or active transportation.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations including youth, families, and adults.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Reliable, punctual, and adaptable in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in bicycle education and safety practices (no prior experience required)
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (e.g. bicycles, cones, materials) as needed
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools.
  • Ability to work both remotely and in an office setting.
  • Deep commitment to Bike Cleveland’s mission and a desire to make Greater Cleveland more bike-friendly.

Preferred (but not required)

  • Experience in education, coaching, recreation, or community programs.
  • Basic knowledge of cycling or interest in learning bicycle safety skills.
  • Experience working with youth or in group settings.
  • League Cycling Instructor certification.
