Rider Alert: Memorial Bridges Loop Construction
Eastbound riders using the Detroit-Superior Bridge should be aware of a detour that affects you on the descent towards the intersection at W9th/Huron Road.
There are detour signs and orange barrels leading you from the bike lane into the roadway as the intersection nears. The roadway at this point is a combined straight/right turn lane, so please MERGE WITH CAUTION.
Look and/or wait for a safe time to merge, then continue down to the intersection. Depending of traffic volumes, this could be quite simple or a challenge requiring a bit of patience before proceeding and taking the lane. Please do not continue behind the barricades – this sets you up to exit from behind them into unexpecting vehicles turning right or coming across from W9th.
As a first alternative, you can consider taking the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge – but – this same construction project affects your exit off that bridge as well. A second alternative is to avoid both bridges altogether, and use the detour shown below. It takes the trail alongside Main Avenue down to Center Street, connecting around to St. Clair. The hill up St. Clair is short, but quite steep.
