In 2018 the Leadership Cleveland's class of LC2 Fellows worked to improve the region’s quality of life through a projects intended to strengthen the physical and cultural connections between the neighborhoods surrounding Downtown. The project was called the Memorial Bridges Loop.
The Cleveland Memorial Bridges Loop would use excess road capacity to create a separated bicycle and pedestrian facility linking the protected bicycle lane and promenade on the Detroit-Superior Bridge with the existing separated multi-use path from Eagle Avenue across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge.
The Cleveland Memorial Bridges Loop would complete a crucial gap in Cleveland bike and pedestrian network and is the first step in to build a network of stress-free bike/ped accommodations that connect Downtown to the neighborhoods.

Project Details/Presentations/Updates:
- 3 mile bicycling/walking loop around the Cuyahoga River Valley, connecting east-west utilizing the Detroit Superior Bridge and Lorain Carnegie Bridge.
- March 2018 Feasibility Study completed by LC2 Fellows.
- April 2018 stakeholder presentation with Trust for Public Land and Cleveland City Planning Commission.
- August 2021: City of Cleveland engages consultant to engineer and develop cost estimates
- March 2022: City of Cleveland begins seeking funding for construction.
- July 2022: Rep. Shontel Brown secures Community Project Funding for the Memorial Bridges Loop on Huron and Ontario.
- January 2024: The Memorial Bridges Porject is fully funded and will begin construction in 2025.
