BELIEVE: The Bigfoot Ride
In honor of National Sasquatch Awareness Day, Bike Cleveland presents BELIEVE: The Bigfoot Ride to raise awareness of the elusive creature’s presence in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Even though most folks think their main habitat is located in the Pacific Northwest – after joining us on this adventure – you may begin to believe otherwise. During online registration, riders have the option of choosing the free out-and-back ride only (we’ll call them Skeptics) – or – bike camp overnight at the halfway point for a small fee and return the following morning (these are the Believers.) Please read the timeline and details carefully before choosing.
BELIEVE: The Bigfoot Ride | Event Timeline
Saturday, October 19th – 2024
5:30pm: Rider meetup at Station Road Bridge Trailhead | MAP
6:00pm: Group rollout
All riders will travel about 7.5 miles on the Towpath Trail, and we will stop periodically to read eyewitness accounts of sightings along the way.
7:30pm: Riders reach the turnaround point.
Skeptics will ride 7.5 miles back they way they came to the start point. Believers will continue on about a mile to bike camp in Bigfoot territory – with the hope that they make it through the night – and will ride back to the start point on Sunday morning.
BELIEVE: The Bigfoot Ride | Event Details
All Riders:
- All riders must wear a helmet, and lights are absolutely required. Sunset is at 6:40, so a significant portion of the ride will be in the dark. Your front light should be able to project a bit of light on the trail, the simple blinky-type won’t let you see where you are going!
Believers (overnight bike campers):
- Registration fee includes a shared camping area, and a simple (pizza, etc.) dinner. Please keep tents small, and a camp chair will come in handy. The campsite is only a mile from the turnaround point, but it does have a decent hill and a short road section.
- The campground has a 10pm quiet time, and no alcohol is permitted. By registering, you are agreeing to these rules.
- We will ride out in the morning and those that are interested can stop at Fisher’s in Peninsula for breakfast (not included) before riding back. If not interested, you are of course free to continue back to the start point from the previous day.
Weather Plan: We’ll hope for good fall weather, but let’s be honest – this won’t be much fun in the rain or nasty weather. If we make the call to cancel, we’ll let everyone know as soon as we can. The registration fee for overnighters will not be refunded for a weather cancellation. Sorry – we won’t be getting refunded for the campground fees either in that situation š
