Cycling Instructor Seminar (LCI Certification)

Registration for the 4/10 – 4/12, 2025 LCI seminar in Cleveland, OH is now open! The courses cover topics such as performing a bicycle safety check, how to operate and bicycle safely and legally, motorist education, evasive maneuvers, group riding, and more. After successful completion of the 3-day, League Coach-led seminar, participants will receive League Cycling Instructor certification and be able to teach Smart Cycling classes to children and adults. League Cycling Instructors help people feel more secure about riding by educating cyclists and motorists and ensuring that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally.
The League will provide the following to all LCI candidates at the seminar:
- Smart Cycling Manual
- Youth Instructor Manual
- Quick Guide
- Learn to Ride Manual
- Group Ride Manual
- Smart Cycling T-shirt
Prerequisites for the LCI Seminar include:
- Completion of the Traffic Skills 101/Smart Cycling class. If you need to complete the Smart Cycling class please reach out to Jacob VanSickle at Jacob@bikecleveland.org.
- Individual membership with the League of American Bicyclists at $45 per year
- Registration and payment for the LCI Seminar (Details below).
The LCI Seminar emphasizes teaching how to teach bicycling safety. Prospective LCIs should have experience riding on roadways and be comfortable and confident riding with others, they are expected to have a basic level of knowledge about safe cycling and bike maintenance. - Cancellation and transfer requests must be sent via email to education@bikeleague.org.
- A candidate will be given a full refund or may transfer to another seminar if they cannot attend the scheduled seminar due to health reasons.
- Cancellations due to non-related health reasons made within three weeks of the seminar will be offered a transfer. The transfer will be subject to an administrative fee of $75.
