Join the Northeast Ohio cycling community in raising more than $2,000 in food to provide meals to disadvantaged families in Cleveland that may not have one during the Thanksgiving season.

Here’s how:

1) Be a part of Cleveland’s second annual Cranksgiving at West Park Station, 17015 Lorain Avenue on Saturday, November 23 (time TBA). Cranksgiving is a bicycle ride where you’ll ride on your own or with friends to grocery stores, picking up a particular food item at each store. It’s up to you to determine to which stores you ride and in what order as well as the routes you take, but your ride will likely be around 15 miles. The event is free and open to all, but please bring about $15 (or whatever you can) to purchase food items as well as a messenger bag, pannier, backpack, or trailer in which you can haul your groceries. RSVP to the event on Facebook here.

2) Coordinate your own mini-food drive to collect nonperishable goods from your family, friends, and co-workers. Bring the food you raise to Cranksgiving on Saturday, November 23. Every bit helps, even if you simply bring a few canned goods from your pantry. Businesses, you are also encouraged to coordinate your own mini-food drives among employees and/or customers. If you or your business are planning a mini-food drive, please leave a comment below.

3) Those who would like to donate money to the cause can do so by visiting Bikecleveland.org/donate (please note “Cranksgiving” in the comment section when making a donation). A group of Bike Cleveland board and committee members and friends will fetch groceries during Cranksgiving on behalf those contributing monetary donations.

All food collected at Cranksgiving will be donated to the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland to help feed the needy during the holiday season.

Cranksgiving was first organized in New York City in 1999, and it has spread to more than two dozen cities across North America. For more information, visit Cranksgiving.org.
