March Meetups, Classes, and Events

March is the gateway month into real spring weather (whatever that means anymore) and it’s the perfect time to start really getting back into the groove of things bike related. Good news is: there are quite a few things going on in March to keep you active, engaged, and informed as you get ready to start putting some real miles in!

March 2nd: Spring Kick Off Party > Break out of the winter doldrums and get ready for the Spring bicycling season at Century Cycle’s annual Spring Kick-Off Party! Food and beverages provided, and raffle prizes will be in effect. We will be joining them to make this our Member Social. If you are not already a member, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about the great work we are doing – and if you’re not a member – it’s a great time to join!

March 3rd: Bike Euclid Meet & Greet > Get to know other bicyclists in your area, events planned for 2018, and how you can join in the fun! Learn how you can support rides Bike Euclid has planned for the community, their “Light Up the Night” program, and the Bike to the Beach Party and Campout 2018. The Cleveland Brewery have generously offered to open their doors early for them at 5. A brief presentation at 5:30 will be followed by ample opportunity to hang out and share stories.  Get full details and join in the discussion here.

March 3rd: Monkeyshines – a POHR Fundraiser! > Join the Mind Brain Social Club at The BottleHouse Brewery in Lakewood to help raise cancer fighting money for American Cancer Society Pan Ohio Hope Ride! Music is planned, as well as raffles and other prizes from Bike Cleveland member bike shops. Event fun runs from 7-10PM, so you could even do a east side/west side combo night! Stay updated here.

March 6th: Franklin Boulevard Traffic Calming Meeting > This final public meeting is a chance to see how alternatives could be implemented, and how they could transform the corridor into a safer place for ALL road users and pedestrians. Come see the potential solutions, learn about how they could influence your riding safety, and add your voice to the discussion when it matters most! Meeting Details

March 20th: Bike Smarts “DIY Wrenching” > Bike Smarts is our class series that meets every 3rd Tuesday on a wide range of cycling topics. All are meant to bolster your cycling knowledge, enhance your safety and enjoyment, and encourage you to spend more time on 2 wheels. Each class is $10 (FREE to Bike Cleveland members with code) and they are all held at our Ohio City office beginning at 6:30pm. Light refreshments and snacks are provided, and the class vibe is relaxed and interactive. Our March topic is DIY Wrenching – and it’s bound to sell out!

March 23rd: Bike Lakewood Spring Social > Join Bike Lakewood for an evening of pizza and beer (they will have have non-alcoholic beverages, too) at Bike Cleveland member business Spin Bike Shop. Get to know other cyclists in Lakewood, talk about ways to advocate for safer cycling, and hear about what they have in the works for 2018! It’s another great time to join the movement and get involved. Facebook Event with all the details

March 24th: Adventure University Gear Swap & Expo > Join Cleveland Metroparks for the Adventure University Gear Swap and Expo! Adventure University is a place for outdoor adventure seekers to meet, socialize, share, and learn about outdoor pursuits. Get inspired and learn through hearing others’ adventures and stories through educational and inspirational sessions. Check out the gear swap and consignment area to get into or sell some lightly used gear. The event is free, so head to the Metroparks Event.

March 31st: Chili March Metric > The Lake Erie Wheelers’ CLASSIC first ride of the year! 70 & 35 mile routes through three Emerald Necklace Metroparks reservations. A great ride to start the season after a long winter’s break from cycling! Full-service with sag support, a fun atmosphere, and chili lunch stop to warm back up if the day is cold! Registration is open at the Chili March Metric homepage.

These are the March highlights – remember to periodically check out the Bike Cleveland Events page to see new meetings, events, and other bike-centric activities as they begin to pile up over the summer. Let’s ride!
