Driving in Lakewood? Know What to Do

November Class

Learning to drive is a big step toward independence. But driving in a city like Lakewood means sharing the road with more than just other cars.

You’ll encounter people walking across the street, bicyclists using bike lanes and travel lanes, buses stopping for passengers, pedestrians in crosswalks, and intersections where several different road users are trying to figure out what to do at the same time.

And sometimes, the rules aren’t as obvious as they seem.

That’s why we’re offering a Bicycle and Pedestrian Friendly Driver Class for new and future drivers.

On Tuesday, November 3, Lakewood High School students will have another opportunity to attend this interactive session focused on the real-world situations that come with driving on Lakewood’s streets.

We’ll use examples from streets students already know to talk through what drivers should be looking for, where conflicts can happen, and how to make safe decisions when sharing the road with people walking and biking.

This isn’t about memorizing a list of rules. It’s about understanding what other road users are doing—and what you, as a driver, can do to make everyone’s trip safer.

Whether you’re already driving, studying for your permit, or just starting to think about getting behind the wheel, you’ll get something useful out of the class.

Up to 20 free Winter Dance tickets will be available to students who attend the class.
