ACTION ALERT: NOACA Climate Action Plan

The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) has been working for the past six months on a 5-County Climate Action Plan.  This Climate Action Plan will improve our environment and quality of life.

Unfortunately, a well-organized campaign of climate change deniers overwhelmed five public listening sessions and an online channel with negative comments and disruptive behavior. These actions have had an negatice impact.

Every year, NOACA must pass a resolution called the Overall Work Plan (OWP), which describes all projects that NOACA will undertake during the coming year. The resolution was passed by the Finance Committee and sent to the full Board for approval, including a description of the climate plan process. However, NOACA staff subsequently watered it down, so that the resolution no longer mentions climate action planning; it only refers to activities such a reducing emissions and building resilience. Passage of the resolution in this form would send a strong message against climate action planning and could lead to further actions to derail the
planning process.

Two ways to take action:

  1. Use our tool to email NOACA letting them know you support the Climate Action Plan.
  2. Show up this Friday, March 10th at 9am at NOACA’s Board Meeting to provide public comment in support of the Climate Action Plan.  Public comment instructions and talking points can be found here. What: NOACA Board Meeting
