June 20th E-Newsletter

First Things First

Last night….was….amazing! Before the E-News, we need to first acknowledging the sheer awesomeness that is the Cleveland Cavaliers! We’re big fans of this great city, and like you, to bear #witness to a major Cleveland championship…well…you know the feels. We all have them!

Ok, with slightly bleary eyes after a realllllly late night, here’s our E-News update.

Midway Public Meetings

Our Midway concept continues to develop, and we’re at a point where we need public input! If you don’t already know, The Midway is designed to reclaim some of the excess capacity of our road network, and create a network of fully protected bike lanes that would connect the city. A formal planning process is underway and now is the time to solicit public input and comment.

To that end, there are three important public meetings coming up we encourage you to attend and to share with your friends. East, west, and downtown. We hope to see you at one!

Meeting #1 –
Date: Wednesday, June 29th
Location: Cleveland Public Library 325 Superior Ave, 2nd Floor Conference Room
Time: 11:30am-1:30pm

Meeting #2 –
Date: Wednesday, June 29th
Location: Fairhill Partners 12200 Fairhill Rd, 2nd Floor Auditorium
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Meeting #3 –
Date: Thursday, June 30th
Location: Zone Recreation Center 6301 Lorain Ave, Multi-Purpose Room
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Lakeshore Boulevard Bike Lanes

Something else good happened recently! Bike lanes were striped on one of the most important east/west bike routes in the city! We’d like to thank Councilman Polensek for listening and being responsive to the desires of his residents and the biking community at large, and Commissioner Rob Mavec of City Traffic Engineering for his hard work and advocacy on the project. Without Commissioner Mavec’s commitment to the project, there is a good chance it wouldn’t have gone forward. Thank you!

Lakeshore Boulevard is an excellent addition to the network, and while there is always a learning curve with new traffic patterns and infrastructure, we’ve already gotten a lot of positive feedback on the new lanes.

Become a League Certified Instructor

Are you a ride leader? Would you like to be? Do you want to help teach others how to safely operate their bikes on the road? Would you like to have insurance to protect yourself while doing so? If you answered yes to any of those questions you should sign up to become a League of American Bicyclist League Certified Instructor!

We are hosting an LCI certification class in August, 2016. The certification includes a mix of class time, skills and drills, and outside rides / exams on live Cleveland streets. Get the details on our website and sign up today! Space is limited so don’t delay!
