League Cycling Instructor Seminar
Do you have a desire to make cycling safe and accessible for others? Become a League Cycling Instructor with the League of American Bicyclists!
League Cycling Instructors (LCI’s) are ambassadors for better biking through education. After earning certification through a 3-day, League Coach-led seminar, LCIs teach Smart Cycling classes to children as well as adults.
The intensive twenty-hour seminar will focus on mastering and teaching the concepts and skills of safe vehicular cycling. Each candidate will present and evaluate each other’s presentations on topics from The League’s Smart Cycling curriculum. Topics included principles of traffic law, signaling and lane positioning, gear and accessories for all-weather riding, proper helmet fit and usage, and many others. Every candidate will also learn to set up and teach The League’s on-the-bike Parking Lot Drills and lead a group ride. The goal is to help people feel more secure about getting on a bike, to create a mindset that bikes are treated as a vehicle, and to ensure that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally.
Prerequisites for the training include:
- Completion of the Traffic Skills 101/Smart Cycling Complete class. You can register for Bike Cleveland’s class taking place August 13th here: https://events.humanitix.com/traffic-skills-101-smart-cycling-class
- Individual membership with the League of American Bicyclists at $45 per year
- Registration and payment for the LCI Seminar (Details below).
The LCI Seminar emphasizes teaching how to teach bicycling safety. Prospective LCIs should have experience riding on roadways and be comfortable and confident riding with others, they are expected to have a basic level of knowledge about safe cycling and bike maintenance.
Cleveland League Cycling Instructor Seminar Details
When: April 19th, 2024-April 21st, 2024 (hours: Friday – 5pm-9pm, Saturday – 8:30am-5pm, Sunday – 8:30am-4pm)
Location: Bike Cleveland (3000 Bridge Avenue, Suite 1 Cleveland, OH 44113)
Early Bird registration price: $500.00. Regular registration: $575.00 beginning (March 22nd, 2024 at 11:59pm)

- Cancellation and transfer requests must be sent via email to education@bikeleague.org.
- A candidate will be given a full refund or may transfer to another seminar if they cannot attend the scheduled seminar due to health reasons.
- Cancellations due to non-related health reasons made within three weeks of the seminar will be offered a transfer. The transfer will be subject to an administrative fee of $75.
