New: Harvard Avenue Cycletrack

The Village of Newburgh Heights (a suburb of Cleveland) is putting the final touches on the area’s first separated 2-Way Cycletrack! This section will run on Harvard Avenue from E49th Street several blocks west to Washington Park Boulevard. A bicycle facility like this operates much like the All-Purpose Trails you are used to in the Metroparks, but it takes the place of a motor vehicle lane on the north side of the road.
While we were visiting, the crews were still installing the delineator posts in the buffer, and they expected to have the project done later this week.
In these images, you can see how the motor vehicle lane was removed in favor of two-way bike traffic, and how the pedestrian experience will be improved with the wider distance between them and traffic. Delineator posts will run the length of the project area.
This project is along Harvard Road in Newburgh Heights. At the east end there are existing neighborhood trails that connect Washington Park and the Cleveland Metroparks Canalway Center. This on-street spur is the first leg of what will hopefully lead to a full-length connection to the Towpath at the bottom of the hill on Harvard, which would lead riders either north and south to destinations beyond.
