Roosevelt Group Bike Ride to Madison Park
On Thursday, September 17, Roosevelt students and their families are invited to take part in a group bike ride from Roosevelt Elementary to Madison Park. We’ll meet at the main entrance of Roosevelt at 3:15 p.m., go over some important bike safety tips, and then ride together to the park.
This free event is being held in partnership with the Roosevelt PTA and the Lakewood Police Department.
Helmets & Waivers
All participants in the group ride—including adults—are required to wear a helmet.
All participants must also complete the Smart Cycling Course Registration Waiver. A parent or legal guardian must accompany their child(ren) during the ride and must read and sign the waiver for any child participating in the ride. The waiver will be available at the beginning of the event.
The Lakewood Police Department has a limited number of helmets available to residents in need. If you or your child does not have a properly fitting helmet, please contact Ward 1 Neighborhood Police Officer Jonathan Schmitz at Jonathan.Schmitz@lakewoodoh.
Getting Ready to Ride
Before heading out, participants will take part in a brief bike safety talk led by a League Cycling Instructor. We’ll review some important tips for riding safely together and talk about what to expect during the ride.
With one small exception, the group ride will take place primarily on the road, not the sidewalk.
While there is no age requirement for participating, students who are riding their own bicycles should be able to comfortably ride two miles and must be able to maintain control of their bicycle at all times while following the directions of the ride leader.
Children unable to meet the above requirements may participate if riding in a bike seat or trailer with an adult. Children riding independently must be on pedal powered bicycles with no electric assist. Parents and guardians may ride class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes.
At Madison Park
The ride will take us to Madison Park.
Once we arrive, the Roosevelt PTA will provide popsicles, and the Lakewood Police Department will offer bike registration for families who would like to register their bicycles.
The organized event will conclude at approximately 4:30 p.m.
